Chess is played by over 600 million people and is the most popular game in the world. The San Diego Public Library recognizes the benefits of chess and offers the following locations where everyone can indulge in this ancient game.

Downtown Chess
Every Fridays: 1:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Open to everyone. A dynamic atmosphere that caters to players of all levels. Blitz tournaments are held on a quarterly basis. Downtown Chess is the biggest casual chess club in San Diego!

Kids Chess Club
Every Mondays: 3 - 5 p.m.
This program is for children ages 5 and up. All levels of players are welcome. There will be instruction for beginners and opportunities for kids to play against other kids at their own level. Please bring a chess board and pieces to play with. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Chess Club for Ages 7+
Every 2nd and 4th Saturday: 2 - 4 p.m.
Children ages 7 and up, of all levels are welcome to attend Chess Club. Led by USCF national master Kevin Yang, conceptual technique and vocabulary will be introduced to enhance a player's opening, middlegame, and endgame strategies. Questions and feedback will also be provided.
