Current Park Project - Children's Park

Children's Park rendering

Children's Park is an approximately 1.4-acre park constructed in 1995 which currently contains an urban forest of Canary Island Pine trees and the Civic Pond. The surrounding community has long desired to add amenities to the passive park that will draw in surrounding residents and workers. After three community workshops determined desired amenities for the park, the City's Parks and Recreation Board approved a General Development Plan for improvements to the park in July, 2017.

The Children’s Park Improvements project will thin the existing urban forest to allow more light into the park, replace the Italian Cypress street trees with canopy street trees to greatly increase views into the park, and add the following improvements to the park to greatly increase its use by residents and visitors:

  • Children’s play area with unique play equipment to compliment an urban forest “theme”
  • Picnic area
  • Adult exercise equipment area
  • Off-leash dog run
  • Vendor building
  • Public restrooms with attendant booth
  • Lawn area
  • New walkway through the Civic Pond
  • Public art
