Annual Receiving Waters Monitoring Reports

To meet National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit requirements, the City submits results from water quality, sediment, benthic infauna, demersal fish, megabenthic invertebrates, fish tissue contaminant monitoring to the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (SDRWQCB) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 on an annual basis. During odd years (e.g. 2019, 2021), the City provides brief data summaries for the past year (Interim Reports). During even years (e.g., 2020, 2022) the City produces a comprehensive assessment report covering the previous two years (Biennial Reports). Results from Biennial Report assessments are also presented to the SDRWQCB as part of the State of the Ocean address. Prior to 2016, the City submitted separate annual reports for Point Loma Ocean Outfall (PLOO) and South Bay Ocean Outfall (SBOO) regions.
